Storm Austen — Yellow Weather Warning Issued for Friday
A yellow weather warning is in place for Friday, with heavy rain and strong winds forecast across the borough. This may result in localised flooding, travel disruption and other weather-related impacts.
The council is monitoring the situation closely and relevant teams will remain on standby throughout the weekend to respond and provide support where needed.
We encourage residents to:
- Avoid driving or walking through floodwater.
- Check road and travel conditions before setting out.
- Follow advice from the Met Office and local authorities.
- Report issues requiring council attention through the appropriate channels.

Prepare Your Home
- Secure loose items such as garden furniture, bins, plant pots and trampolines.
- Close and secure doors and windows before the weather deteriorates.
- Clear gutters and drains of leaves and debris where it is safe to do so.
Be Prepared
- Charge mobile phones and devices and keep spare batteries available in case of power cuts.
- Keep important contact numbers handy, including utility providers and emergency support services.
Support Your Community
- Check on vulnerable neighbours, friends and relatives, particularly older residents or those with disabilities, to ensure they have everything they need.
- Offer practical support where safe to do so, such as helping with shopping, collecting prescriptions or sharing important updates and advice.
